Night Secrets Book Tour: Review, Interview, & KINDLE FIRE GIVEAWAY!!!

Welcome to our stop of B.K. Walker's Night Secrets book tour! This tour is hosted by

1.   Why did you decide to write Night Secrets?

The entire book came to me in a dream, the scenes played out and characters names already chosen. The characters were trying to tell their story and wouldn't let me alone until I started writing. Yes, it's true. Us authors really do hear voices ;)

2.   What was your favorite scene to write? Least favorite?

My favorite scene would be, without giving too much away, when they found out that a certain someone was really a werewolf when they had no idea. My least favorite, well I leave you with a cliffhanger and I'm almost regretful for doing that, but love keeping you guys in suspense lol.

3.   What has been your favorite moment as an author?

I love meeting the people. I've been able to meet some magnificent bloggers and other authors in my writing career, and I wouldn't change that for the world. They are all great, especially the readers – thank you.

4.   What is your favorite book that you've read so far this year? Favorite author?

Quinn's Undying Rose by Tina Folsom, and she IS my favorite author. I've read her entire Scanguards Vampires series and they are all fantastic! If you haven't read them yet, go get your hands on them right away, you don't know what you're missing!

5.   Is there going to be a sequel to Night Secrets?

Yes. There is a sequel in the works titled, Corbin's Descent. We are taken to Ireland in this title where Keara meets some of her family, learns her majick and role she must play, while continuing to dodge Dante. Corbin is with her to help and protect her, and things really start heating up.

6.   Is there anything new that you're working on that you can tell us about?

I'll be releasing To Love A Wolf this month, and I'm working on a book – Living With Fibromyalgia. I'm hoping to have that ready for February of 2013 or at least by Spring.

7.   If you had a code name, what would it be? Why?

Smartass. I tend to joke around a lot. One reason my husband and I get along so well, lol.

This or That

Chocolate or Vanilla? Vanilla
Series or Stand-Alone? Series
Chicken or the Egg? Egg. They're less messy than Chickens. I know, we have some and they poop all over!
Coffee or Hot Chocolate? Coffee. Start my day with coffee, always.
Happily Ever After or To Be Continued? Happily Ever After, I often hate cliffhangers, sorry I know I did it to you guys, bahahaha.
Star-Struck Lovers or Turbulent Relationships? Star-Struck Lovers.
Star Wars or Star Trek? Star Wars – I love Chewbacca!

So, I see. You're one of THEM. The crazies who think Stars Wars is better than Star Trek. Hmmm.... Well, I guess I can let it slide due to the awesomeness of your answer to number nine. But be on the lookout, though. We Trekkies bite.

My Review

Oh, the cliff hangers! Why?! Why, B.K. Walker?! Why must you do this to me?! You give me a short 155 pages to get to know your characters and the world they live in, and then you take them all away from me! What would possess you to do such a thing? Where's your humanity? Your sense of compassion for the poor readers that so easily become attached to characters that don't really exist? Have you no heart?

I obviously enjoyed this book, but I have to say, I didn't feel very satisfied with the ending. It just felt like an enormous stamp of "TO BE CONTINUED" was all that was missing to cement this fact. Yeah, I get that there's supposed to be another book (I hope), but there was absolutely no closure! You just shipped your characters off on a plane to a foreign land where I couldn't follow them. Literally.

While this may not have been the most original book (even though now it's almost impossible to be), I still did enjoy it quite a bit. I thought that the characters were wonderful, especially Aunt Aingeal and Jared. And Buddha. No, not that Buddha, but he's still pretty awesome. And Irish.

Probably my favorite piece of the novel was the mixing of different mythologies and stories together. The same paranormal creatures over and over can get a little monotonous at times, so I really enjoyed the addition of a few lesser known characters.

The only complaint that I have with this book is that everything just seemed too rushed. Too many events were crammed into too few pages, and there was never any time for the reader to just relax and contemplate what had happened along with the characters. All of the relationships between them seemed too hurried and forced, like they were already lined up before they even met. I personally think that it takes some of the fun out of discovering things out for yourself if everything is just shoved at you so quickly.

Once you get past that, though, and slow yourself down so that you can really get into the book, it really is very entertaining.

Rating: 3 stars

And if you're still not convinced, here's an excerpt of the novel to pull you over. Or push. Your choice.

The Excerpt

After Keara's Car Accident

"'Keara, can you hear me?'

I stared into the face of the owner of Night Secrets, allowing my eyes to blink in response. What was he doing here?

'Here. Drink this. It will help you feel beter.'

He held a small vile to my lips, tipping it so the contents seeped into my mouth. It was cool, with a sweet taste. I had no idea what he was giving me, but as it ran down my throat, I felt like I was being.... energized.

'Give it a few seconds to start working,' he said as he gently caressed my cheek. I cringed at the sharp pain I felt as his hand ran over a certain spot on my face. I was able to raise my hand to my faice, my voice still not wanting to cooperate.

'It's not as bad as you're thinking, Keara. It's a small cut from the air bag. I'd say you are quite lucky.

Oh God. Don't cry again! I didn't want to cry in front of this man. I didn't even know him, and he gave me weird vibes. Please don't cry. Please. Please. Please.

'It's okay to cry after such a trauma. Do not be embarrassed.'

That was all it took. The tears poured out of my eyes. I found I was unable to move more than my arm and hand and started wriggling in my seat. I tried clearing my throat, it seemed so dry. He handed me a Kleenex from the open glove compartment. This damn Kleenex started it all. Taking it anyway, I began wiping my face."

    1. I suppose that's why I usually like it when I can start a series after all of the books have been released. But sometimes I just can't wait!

  8. Catching up with the tour. I definitely have to agree with the cliffhanger. We're standing at the airport to see Keara leave and we have so many questions: What's her gifts? Can they stay away from Dante? Does Channing follow her to Ireland? What becomes of their relationship? However, I would've been sorely sorry if I had not read the book.
BK - let me know when Living With Fibromyalgia is definitely out. My dad has it and I'm sure it would be a great gift for him.

  9. My favorite creature is the chimaeras from the Lorien Legacies series. They're great because they can disguise themselves as dogs and then morph into extremely protective fighting creatures.
